How can people effortlessly locate and access available charging stations for their electric vehicles? How can people effectively use mobile applications to manage their electric vehicles without encountering connectivity issues, complex interfaces, or limited functionalities?

Solution

Solution

Solution

The goal of this project was to develop a digital service tailored to the management of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids. The proposed solution is the Volt Go application, designed to address current challenges and enhance user experience for EV owners. Volt Go integrates user insights to provide an intuitive interface, robust functionality, and improved usability, ensuring a seamless management experience for electric vehicle owners.

Idea Generation

Idea Generation

The concept for Volt Go emerged from a thorough research and brainstorming process. I identified key challenges faced by EV owners, such as difficulty in locating charging stations and inadequate functionality in existing apps. Through ideation sessions, I explored various features to address these pain points, including an enhanced battery level overview, user-friendly navigation, and customizable themes. The goal was to create a service that not only meets but exceeds user expectations, offering practical solutions and innovative features.

Survey

Survey

To gather comprehensive data, a survey was conducted using Google Forms and distributed within a Facebook group dedicated to electric car and plug-in hybrid owners in Sweden. This survey, which engaged 118 participants of various ages and locations, aimed to understand current app usage, user experiences, and preferences. Key areas of focus included the effectiveness of existing applications, challenges faced, and desired features for a more satisfying user experience.

Design

Based on the survey and interview insights, the design phase involved creating sketches and developing a tangible prototype for Volt Go. The design process prioritized user feedback, emphasizing features like clear battery level visibility and interactive information. The prototype was tested with real users, focusing on usability aspects such as theme preferences (light and dark modes) and the functionality of features like charging station locators. The iterative design process ensured that the application evolved based on practical user input.

Summary and Insights

The Volt Go project utilized a Design Thinking approach, starting with user empathy and research, followed by defining design goals, generating ideas, and creating a functional prototype. User testing revealed several valuable insights: users appreciated the practical features and customization options but suggested improvements for battery level visibility and contrast in dark mode. Overall, Volt Go is positioned to offer an enhanced digital experience for EV owners by addressing key challenges and integrating user-driven enhancements. This iterative process underscores the importance of continuous feedback and refinement in developing effective digital solutions.
